Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann announced Bedford and Richmond as Indiana's 2013 Stellar Communities. The cities will now be able to access millions of dollars in funding sources to support their long-term strategic plans. Both communities submitted nearly $20 million proposals. Bedford's plan focuses on downtown development and work force training. Richmond's proposal centers on quality of life improvements including senior housing and improved bike trails and Wi-Fi access.

“Bedford is a great place to live, work and prosper,” Jamie Medlock, past president of the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce said.  "We have a friendly business environment and an ubelievable amount of cooperation from city and county government, to businesses and residents."

Kevin Brinegar, state chamber president, echoed that theme.

“The city of Bedford is a good example of how true teamwork can improve the quality of living and the business climate in a city of any size,” he said in prepared remarks before the event.

“For rural Indiana, this is very special,” Medlock said. “It is a high honor.”
