Dan Bortner
Chief Executive Officer
Dan Bortner is a lifelong Hoosier who grew up in the southern Indiana City of Bedford. He graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1983. Following high school he attended Indiana University where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Affairs from the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Dan became the Director of Indiana’s State Parks in 2005, where he oversaw the operation of 32 State Park and Reservoir properties. He served 4 Governor’s in that capacity--Governor Mitch Daniels, Governor Mike Pence, Governor Eric Holcomb, and Governor Mike Braun. He served as the Agency Head of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources from 2020 to 2025.
Upon his retirement from agency in 2025, he was the longest serving State Parks Director in Indiana’s history.
During his tenure as State Parks Director, he served as the President of the National Association of State Park Directors, promoting America’s State Parks. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors for the America’s State Parks Foundation and the Indiana University Executive Development Program’s Board of Trustees.
He is active in the local community as well serving as the President of the Green Hill Cemetery Association and serving his second term on the Bedford City Council.
He and his wife April are the parents of three adult children, Ashley Barnes (and husband Clayton Barnes), Alex Bortner, and Dylan Bortner (and wife Kaylee Bortner). They have two grandchildren, Claire Barnes and Saylor Bortner.
Sally Miller
Membership and Communications Director
Sally is a Greene County native and a graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. She has resided in Mitchell for the past 22 years, working for various businesses right here in Bedford for most of that time. Her experience includes retail, administrative assistance, and most recently food service management. In Mitchell, you might hear her referred to as the Coach Miller's Wife, the Parks Board President, or Collin and Dillon’s crazy mom, all hats she wears with pride!

Cierra Murphy
Office Coordinator
Born and raised in Bedford, Indiana, Cierra is deeply rooted in her community. While
she has worked in various business and nonprofit settings, she also took a more
traditional path—spending several years homeschooling and soaking up every
moment with her three children. Outside of work, she enjoys a faith-filled family life,
learning new hobbies with her children, and seizing every opportunity for a new
adventure.
Cierra now studies business and is excited about this administrative role at the
Chamber, where she brings a practical, people-focused approach to every task she
takes on. She is available to help you with discounted bulk mailings, paying your
membership dues, and general promotion of your business or organization.
